Synopsis

A Universal TiO2 Grade for Evolving Regulatory Requirements

Emerging challenges in the coating market include regulatory and voluntary standards. Trimethylolpropane (TMP), a common surface treatment for TiO2, is moving from self-classification to a higher health risk category. This represents a unique raw material challenge as many materials are used across various application areas, from architectural and industrial to powder coatings. Traditional commercial products, new products to the market as well as developmental technologies need to meet the needs throughout the entire value chain, supporting a robust processing window by coatings producers, delivering demonstrated performance in end-use applications, as well as being readily available to meet emerging demands through a reliable supply chain. This paper will focus on assessing available options and emerging technologies and how they stand up to meet performance, reliability, and emerging regulatory and voluntary standards.
