New carboxilic-functional ultramatte binder for 2K systems with carbodiimide for high performance coatings

Synopsis

Crosslinkers are a powerful tool for the coatings formulator and applicator, enhancing properties such as chemical & stain resistance, toughness and adhesion. However, traditional crosslinking technologies have important drawbacks, like short pot life, moisture sensitivity and health & safety issues (transport classification, labelling, risk phrases).

Our proposal to overcome these challenges is carbodiimide crosslinking.  Carbodiimides are defined as non-hazardous chemicals under the United Nations’s GHS. They react at room temperature and offer extended pot life, which makes them easy to use in the formulation of high performance paints and coatings, both in do-it-yourself and in industrial applications.
