Acrylic dispersions enabling waterborne 1K and 2K low VOC industrial coatings: Formulation strategies and performance validation for industrial applications

The reduction of VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions, driven by regulatory requirements (including SVHC restrictions), has been a major driving force in the development of modern coating technologies. Waterborne acrylic dispersions play an important role in enabling low VOC formulations while maintaining high performance.
This presentation will provide an overview of primary and secondary acrylic dispersions, including acrylic polyols, and discuss their use in low VOC coating formulations for waterborne direct to metal (DTM) and other high performance systems for industrial metal protection.
In addition, the coating performance verification approach will be outlined, covering representative mechanical testing, corrosion resistance evaluation, and accelerated weathering assessments.
