The paints, coatings, adhesives and inks industry is undergoing a period of profound technological change.

Today’s market requires increasingly high-performance formulations, more efficient production processes, lower energy consumption and manufacturing systems capable of delivering a high degree of flexibility.

In this context, plant engineering plays a decisive role by translating the complexity of chemical recipes into a continuous, safe and repeatable industrial process.

Process technology should do more than increase production capacity. It should make the entire manufacturing cycle more precise, flexible, safe and efficient.

Craftsmanship and custom engineering for the chemical industry

Founded by Pasquale Moreno in Ceranesi in 1944, Diamac began as a mechanical turning workshop in the years following the Second World War.

Over the decades, the business has continued to evolve and grow. Today, it is led by Managing Director Giovanni Moreno, supported by his son Andrea and his grandson Gianluca.

Diamac works as an international strategic partner in the design of plants and machinery for paints, coatings, inks, glues, adhesives, sealants, resins, pigments, polyurethanes and mastics.

Rather than following a mass-production model, Diamac combines a rigorous culture of craftsmanship with technological innovation. Every plant is designed and built to order, taking account of the customer’s site layout and specific process requirements.

This approach produces high-performance machinery designed for a long working life. Some plants supplied more than 40 years ago remain fully operational in customers’ factories today.

All machinery is manufactured at the company’s facility in Genoa, with close attention to material quality and no compromise on technical standards.

A complete production cycle for water-based and solvent-based formulations

Diamac solutions can support the complete manufacturing cycle for both water-based and solvent-based formulations.

Agitators and dispersers

Versatile solutions ranging from 0.5-litre laboratory units to large industrial dispersers with capacities of up to 8,000 litres. They are available in a standard electronically variable-speed version or in an ATEX explosion-protected version for processing flammable substances and solvents. They require no internal lubrication, while wear components such as impellers and bellows can be replaced easily.

Kneaders and extruders

Machines designed for processing high-density and high-viscosity products, including sealants, structural adhesives and mastics.

Bead mills and grinding systems

Technologies developed for fine refinement and pigment micronisation, helping manufacturers achieve stability, uniformity and repeatable performance in the finished product.

Energy efficiency and flexible automation

Although the basic principles of dispersion and grinding are well established, technological innovation has transformed the architecture of modern production systems.

Key areas of development include optimising energy consumption, adopting ultra-high-efficiency motors and reducing noise levels.

The new M Grinder

One example of this progress is the new M Grinder, developed to combine high performance, robust construction and ease of use for the chemical coatings industry.

  • Robust, ergonomic construction: manufactured entirely from AISI 304 stainless steel, with a mixing shaft mounted on sealed ball bearings and an adjustable vessel-locking system using universal straps.
  • Hydraulic lifting system: an integrated hydraulic unit makes it easier to raise the machine head, improving operator ergonomics and speeding up maintenance.
  • Integrated cooling basket: made from AISI 304 stainless steel, it removes the need for external cooled vessels in most applications, helping to optimise the plant layout and reduce installation and running costs.
  • Integrated process safety and controls: an IP44 electrical panel with inverter and interference filters, vessel-presence interlock, a safety switch preventing rotation while the head is moving, motor thermistors and temperature sensors with automatic shutdown. The motor is also available in an ATEX version.

Integrated systems and process control

In automated plants, the loading and dosing of powders, liquids, resins and additives can be managed by central control systems connected to high-precision electronic weighing systems and dedicated valves.

However, Diamac’s design philosophy favours flexible automation over completely rigid systems. Computer control provides accuracy and repeatability, while allowing laboratory technicians and operators to adjust the process in response to environmental variables such as humidity or the natural variability of raw materials.

Automation supported by human expertise

The system delivers precision and repeatability without removing the operator’s ability to adapt the process to real production conditions.

Optimising production cycles and modernising industrial plants

Modernising production lines in highly specialised chemical industries requires an integrated approach in which grinding and mixing systems work in harmony with dosing and filling operations.

The primary goal is to reduce cycle times significantly while maintaining, or improving, the formulation stability of finished water-based and solvent-based products.

01

High-shear grinding units

Essential for reducing solid particles finely within the liquid phase and achieving the degree of micronisation required for the long-term stability of enamels, primers and protective coatings.

02

High-precision mixers and agitators

Used for final homogenisation and the controlled incorporation of additives into the formulation.

03

Automated filling systems

Designed for rapid and safe container filling in line with industrial safety standards.

Advanced configurations can also incorporate supporting solutions such as automatic vessel-cleaning systems. The Polivasc system, for example, helps reduce downtime during production changeovers while minimising the use of detergents and solvents.

To support this technological transition, flexible financial solutions such as operating leases with no advance payment and a customised periodic fee can enable companies to introduce advanced equipment without placing unnecessary pressure on operating cash flow.

Technology designed to evolve with production

Innovation in formulated chemical products requires plants that can evolve alongside changing market needs.

For manufacturers, this means having systems capable of handling new formulations, batch changes, different viscosities, safety requirements and variable production volumes without losing control of the process.

Custom engineering brings the different production stages together within a coherent architecture, where mechanical performance, automation, safety and ease of maintenance are treated as parts of the same system.
